2004 Los Vascos Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

Nose: Powerful nose of tobacco and spice.

Taste: Lots of cherry and dark fruit. Soft tannins. Very well balanced. Lingering and surprising finish that featured a hint of chocolate.

Food match: Broasted chicken. Not the greatest pairing. Dinner was catch as catch can, so we had to make due. This wine would go well with a nice grilled sirloin.

I have had several of the Los Vascos offerings, but never the reserve. I have been quite pleased with all of them. The "reserve" is the most complex of the bunch and will probably get better with a few more years on it. IIRC I gave $17 for the wine which makes it a nice QPR.

Thanks for the note on the 2004 Los Vascos Reserve. I've never had the '04 but really enjoyed the 2002 and the 2003's, although when I last tried the 2003 about 8 months ago, I thought the oak was poking through a bit more than I liked. I have a couple of the '03s left so I will need to revisit when the weather cools a bit.
BTW, your note didn't mention oak, so I presume that it was not an issue?

Oak was present, but hanging in the background and not pushing the other components to the rear at all. The oak seems to be less of an issue for the LV "reserve" offering than it is for the standard product, though I've never found it to be offensive in those wines either. I like some oak in my cabs, but if my first thought on tasting the wine is "OAK!" then I am put off; e.g. "Toasted Head".

The NH Liq Store folks have it on the site for $18.99, but with zero inventory! We are going to Whole Paycheck in Portland today, so maybe.
