WTN: Karthäuserhof kicks ass!

The first I am sure was flawed. The second was pure delight.

  • 1998 Karthäuserhof Eitelsbacher Karthäuserhofberg Riesling Kabinett Halbtrocken - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer, Ruwer (6/21/2006)
AP 3 561 303 18 99. 9,0% abv. Probably slightly corked. The nose was mute. The palate had acidity - but that's it. The aftertaste was utterly lacking. I'm not sensitive to cork taint so I'm not sure, but this was far from the excellence of most Karthäuserhofs. NR (flawed)
  • 1998 Karthäuserhof Eitelsbacher Karthäuserhofberg Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer, Ruwer (6/21/2006)
AP 3 561 303 20 99. 8,0% abv. Light gold - not very developed. The nose is elegantly floral, slightly honeyed, so pure and so fresh but with Ruwer steel hiding underneath. The palate is slightly sweet, pleasantly tart and acidic, not the most intense Riesling, but perfectly balanced and is so wonderfully pure! Lovely stuff. Certainly brought a smile to my face :)
