It may be a bit of a fluff piece, but thanks for the article all the same. I've never understood the visceral spite that some people have towards Parker. I also don't get the adulation either. In my wine "life" Robin Garr has been more influential than Robert Parker.

I know of one person who has a fairly understandable reason for his visceral dislike of RMP, but I do agree that both poles of reaction are for the most part bizarre. FWIW, I can think of a few dozen Internet Wine Personalities (you know who you are) who have had far greater impact on my wine purchases than any critic has.

I've come late to the wine scene so I'm not all that up on the various political battles that have taken place in the last 25 years. It seems silly that people could get so passionate about wine. If this were politics I might understand, although I find the spite in politics to be pretty silly too. We'd all be better off if we focussed our passion in helping each other out now and then. Of course, I'm as guilty as the next person. Don't get me started about Peter Angelos and the Baltimore Orioles! Go Nats!

What chance do I have against a person such as yourself who hails from the same state as "The Mayor of Monkton". I've heard that he has you over for a weekly conference to make the final decision on how many points for each individual wines tasted that week. While I'm having this jealous tirade, I'm also under the impression that Paul B. has you proof read all his posts for authenticity. Now that's a real GURU!

To me this is the only place I would pay any attention to RP. Some say the Rhone and if you like OZ stuff some say Shiraz. When buying at auctions I still refer to his old Bordeaux books. More recently he has started favoring the garage Bordeaux and all of them seem over-the-top to me. Makes you wonder if after tasting 100 wines a day for 25 years that his palate has turned to leather and he needs the big stuff to activate it.
