Tried last night w/ dinner:
1. Casa de la Ermita Dd'O: Jumilla Viognier (12.5%; "tropical fruits/orange blossom/pear/pineapple/thyme:; ElCarcheMtn: 250 m elevation) 2006: Light yellow color; rather earthy/Albarino-like/perfumed valve oil/minerally quite light nose; very light/almost no weak pear/Viog earthy vaguely fruity flavor; very short soft/flabby watery vaguely fruity finish; dull as dishwater which insults some dishwaters I've tasted; no Viognier character that I can identify; boooorrrrring. $18.00

2. Sky NapaVlly Zin LateHrvst (SaH: 32Brix; 16.9%; RS: 1.1%) 1986: Med.dark color w/ considerable bricking; rather overripe/pruney/late harvesty strong cedary/tobaccoy/old Zin complex nose; near dry very cedary/pencilly/old Zin/smokey somewhat late harvesty/pruney briary/earthy quite spicy/dusty/earthy slight raspberry/Zin fairly complex flavor; long some overripe/pruney/raisened/late harvesty quite cedary/pencilly/oak/pungent/smokey old Zin finish w/ light tannins; a bit on the overripe/pruney side but still in pretty good condition for the eldery. $18.00

And a wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Don't think I've tried a Viognier from Spain before, and certainly not one from Jumilla; so I was tempted to take a flyer on this wine. MeBad. Based on extrapolations from the data point of one; Viognier has no future in Spain.
The tasting notes on the label are...creative....imaginary.

I have not had a Sky zin in 10 years. Do they still exist? If so, do they still have the hideous label?

LoreOlds still makes Zin and, now, Syrah (which I've not had). And the label is referred to as "art", David.

According to the website, Lore designs the labels each year and his youngest daughter Skyla is an artistic consultant on the labels (as well as a lawyer handling legal matters for the winery.)

Boy the ones I had sure had hideous labels though. I think they were 1995s or thereabouts.
