I found this lone bottle of 1997 Domaine des Senechaux Chateauneuf-du-Pape hiding in my collection and decided it open it last weekend. Dinner was a boneless, wrapped leg of lamb that had been marinated with EVOO, lemon, fresh parsley, fresh mint, green onions, garlic, etc, and then cooked for 45 minutes on an outdoor gas grill.
The wine was tight at first, but as we waited for the lamb to cook and sit, that one hour made all the difference. It was medium bodied with mellow fruit on a lovely finish. It was not a blockbuster in any dimension, but nicely integrated and classy.
