I was given the wine in a little container - even I don't know what it is. Any guesses? I'll hear tomorrow.... (Probably made a fool of my self as usual with blind tastings - oxidised Blue Nun, maybe...)
The colour is deep gold/bronze. The nose is fantastic: nutty, toffeeish (seemingly oak has been used quite a bit), oxidised yet fruity, lifted by an orange-like and ripe red apple scent, a touch volatile. The palate is also a little oxidised and volatile, toffeeish (oak again?), fully dry, highly acidic, but still pleasantly fruity and very, very long. I love this stuff despite the oaky notes! Alcohol is not at all evident on the nose or on the palate, so I don't think this is fortified.
Maybe a vin jaune, except seems oakier than they usually are. Old Musar Blanc? Not grapey enough; too toffeeish. Traditional, old Rioja Blanco? Never tried one, but the profile of what I've read might just fit... Any better guesses?
Cheers,
Otto
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.
