WTN: Gerard Bertrand Syrah-Carignan 2003

From the Minervois.

Decanted.

Very dark purple in the glass.

Faint black licorice on the nose.

Soft in the mouth, rather dusty-powdery, coffee, light to medium-weight, very light cherry fruit.

A wine that is more about mouth sensation (soft, dusty) than flavours. I had expected more, given the grapes involved and the appelation.

Not fairly priced at $14.95 Canadian.

That producers name rings a bell Bruce? Is that the vigneronne who does an excellent low price CDP?

Not sure about that Bob, this was my first experience with this producer.

Perhaps others on the board could shed some light.

Should clarify that this was from his "Terroir" line. On the same day the LCBO also released the Chateau L'Hospitalet ‘La Reserve' rouge 2003 for a few dollars more.
