WTN: Not Bleh!

Daughter and I were at Cost Plus so she could get some bath oils and other girly stuff. I wandered over to the wine department to browse for some low cost, but drinkable wines. I picked up a Marietta Lot 46 and an 04 St Francis Red. Daughter asked about the Gnarly Head Zin. Since she has a good track record of picking good wine, I added it to the basket. I would have tried a few others that were there, but was saving some $$ for Total Wine and cheap, I mean, value Burgundy.

2006 Gnarly Head Zinfandel Aromas of crushed bramble fruit and spice followed flavors of boysenberries, blackberries and pepper. Moderate tannins and juicy acidity give way to a lingering cherry finish. 14.5% abv. At $9 this will likely become our house barbecue red for the summer.

Doug...are wines typically that highly priced in your area or was that a large format bottle? I agree that Gnarly Head zin is a nice value priced barbecue wine but it is usually available at $8-$9/btl up here in upstate NY

I may have entered that price incorrectly in my cellar program now that I think about it. I think it more likely was 8.99, especially since I got it from Cost Plus. I'll have to check the receipt at home and revert. Yup, 8.99 at Cost Plus and I just found it at Costco for 8.69
