Being a huge German wine fan I broke out of my mold to enjoy a great experience. I am fairly inexperienced in Premier Cru wines, so please forgive me...
This was a sit down tasting of 18 with the owner. Wines were served with cured meats, soft cheeses, breads & assorted olives.
1) 2005 Mersault-Clos du Cromin, light straw gold, clear, wonderful aromatic nose that did not overwhelm. Full ahead flavors of flint, chalk, lemons and big fruit. A touch of oak and clean bright finish.
2) 2005 St.-Aubin 1er Cru Dents de Chien, straw gold, clear to brilliant, lots of varietal character in the nose, mouth filling flavors of citrus, (fresh grass/herbal?), spicy and round in a long finish.
3) 2005 Puligny Montrachet, straw gold/brilliant. Full nose of fruit, minerals & anise? Lots of up front flavors that blended well. Very powerful and rich. Finishes very, very dry.
4) 2005 Bourgogne Pinot Noir Cuvee Les Deux Papis, deep color clear & bright. Light fruit on the nose with cherries and smoke. Rich full flavors that round out. Easy to drink now. (for me)
5) 2005 Chambolle-Musigny, deep garnet, huge nose of ripe fruit & earth. This was a very big wine for me. Tons of distinct flavors that need to mellow out. Big Big Big
6) 2005 Vosne-Romanee Vieilles Vignes, deep garnet, brilliant. Nose was very bright with fruit and earth. So much flavor I was not sure what to think. This is a huge wine. I would love to taste this 5 years down the road.
My favorites were the St-Aubin & Bourgogne Cuvee. The group went with the St-Aubin also and the Vosne-Romanee. (I guess they see the potential better than me.)
I had a great time and tasted some wonderful wines..cheers
