Hi,

Some of you may know me from the food board, but I would like to get more involved over here. Thought I would post some notes on a few wines I had last week. Obviously I don't drink the expensive stuff but I do have a passion for food and wine.

1991 Chateau Musar
Purchased from K&L. Bricking on the rim and full of orange peel, flint, sun dried red fruits and spice. Nice wine.

2002 Karl Lawrence Napa Valley Chardonnay “Aldin”
Gift from Ric Henry. Nice wine with some peach, red pear and apple fruits, but after a while it turned rather oaky. Very oaky with air. I will stick to their Cabs.

2004 Ridge “Carmichael” Zinfandel
Purchased at the winery. Quite good deep dark berry fruit with a zip of acid and a tiny note of sweet oak. Clearly not structured for the long run, but rather pleasant these days.

2002 Williams Selyem Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Purchased from their mailing list. One of the finest California Pinots I have had in quite some time. All of the angles have been buffed off and the tannins have melted away to yield a beautiful wine full of black cherry, violets, Asian tea and blackberry.
