2001 Chateau St Jean Cinq Cepages Oak juice. Very disappointing.

I bought a couple bottles of this at a tasting a few years back where all the wines were around $50 and up. The first pour of this at our table was corked and nothing like what was being described. A fresh pour, in clean glasses was very good, nice Cab fruit, balanced oak and grippy tannins. Fast forward a year or so when I opened a bottle for dinner. Not so nice, but drinkable, and not oaky. But this one? I'm still picking splinters out of my tongue. Most went down the sink (into the disposal so I could grind up the splinters).

They made a name for themselves with the '97. I agree I was not that impressed with the '01 even though it gets pretty good ratings
