WTN: Itynera Primitivo 2006

IGT Salento

Dark cherry red in the glass.

Earthy, raspberry, spicy and smoky nose.

Quite big in the mouth, soft and rich, floral, coffee, chocolate, black licorice, lightly tarry, quite juicy raspberry and cherry fruit, somewhat viscous, floral, a slight bitter bite, good acidity.

Sweet cherry fruit on the finish.

A very impressive wine. I can see this wine working very well with BBQ-ed meats. I have had several Primitivo wines over the years and none, until now, bore even a passing resemblence to Zinfandel. Now I can see the family connection.

A steal at $14.95 (Canadian).
