BYO in Sonoma/Wine Country??

by Rahsaan » Sun Apr 27, 2008 1:41 pm

I'm headed up to Sonoma/wine country later this week, and am looking for someplace to have dinner where we can open the bottles we accumulate during the day. Something nice, but not French Laundry level price-wise.. :D

Any recommendations?

Lots of ideas...Where exactly are you going to be? Town of Sonoma? Santa Rosa? Healdsburg?

Sonoma: Cafe La Haye or Girl and the Fig
Santa Rosa: Zazu (although it's a little out of town) or there's great pizza at Pizzeria Rosso .
Graton: Underwood Bar and Grill
Healdsburg: Willi's Seafood Bar or Dry Creek Kitchen (I think they waive corkage for Sonoma County wines)

Tony and I used to frequent these places and they are all corkage friendly! I have plenty of other suggestions if none of those work!

We haven't decided where to stay for the night, so we're pretty flexible. One of our thoughts was that it could be nice to find a place where hotel and restaurant were within walking distance, so we wouldn't have to worry about enjoying wine and then driving. And, in that respect, Sonoma was looking pretty good.

However, I had no idea about the BYO factor.

But, since asking, I have heard that places might offer lower corkage for local wines, so perhaps I'll call Girl and Fig and Cafe de la Haye and see what they say.

Good suggestions from Traci.

Healdsburg and Sonoma (the town) would most likely suit the hotel-to-restaurant walking distance criteria.

In Healdsburg, Willi's seafood Bar is a favorite place, although I've never BYO'd as they have pretty good locals wine list. Fyi, Dry Creek Kitchen is in a boutique hotel by the same name.

Earlier suggestions in the town of Sonoma are good, imho. I'd add La Salette, a nice Portuguese restaurant just off of the town square if in case you need something outside of the Cali wine country stuff.
