WTN: 06 Dr Loosen Erdner Pralat Auslese

by Andrew Burge » Sat Apr 26, 2008 6:46 pm

I've been itching to try some Erdner Pralat wines as I've collected a few, all Dr loosen. The opportunity arose last night over dinner. This has a soft, careful but precise footfall and is full of purpose. Pure, crystal clear, ringing like a bell - passionfruit and apple cider, with nuances of pear and quince. Almost spritzig in its acid sensation. Delicate but persistent, this has the balance to live a long, long time. Lovely.

cheers

Sounds good.

I liked this wine much better than other 06 Loosen wines when I tasted them shortly after release. The rest were pretty dull.

But, I guess EP is often one of his better/best wines.

Does anyone else make EP? I thought it was a monopole.

I've never set eyes on anything other than loosen, but there was this:

I have Meulenhof and Monchof Pralat in the cellar.

As for Loosen - the Pralat is the only consistently interesting wine he has IMO.

I've gotta agree with you David. Always clean and correct, but where's the soul? They're like like electronic Jazz or something. Even the German press is starting to wake up to this. Ernst used to be the Golden Boy.
