WTN: Delirio Syrah-Malbec 2005

by Bruce Hayes » Sat Apr 26, 2008 6:09 pm

Botalcura
Central Valley

A 60-40 blend.

Dark purple in the glass.

Nothing happening on the nose.

Surprisingly light bodied and thin at first, opening up somewhat with some time. Very tangy and peppery, rather juicy raspberry and cherry fruit, drying, moderate weight, spicy, red licorice.

A drying tart finish with some raspberry.

An okay wine, but not worth a detour. I had expected a bit more depth and complexity, given the grapes involved. I was also a bit surprised to find Malbec used in a Chilean wine. I suppose they do grow it there, but I always associate Malbec with Argentina.

Purchased at $12.95 (Canadian).
