WTN: 1998 Tignanello

by Jenise » Tue Apr 22, 2008 1:52 pm

I decided to open my magnum of '98 Tignanello to serve the friends who showed up an hour early to help me set up the kitchen for our neighborhood wine tasting last week. We were serving Italian wines and providing a pasta dinner for 70 participants.

Deep garnet color with black cherry fruit and a lot of tobacco. With time in the glass it developed a bit of black pepper and more complex fruit, but the earthtones and orange peel character I look for in aged Tigs never quite came on. A decent but not great bottle of Tignanello from a decent but not great vintage of Tignanello. If I had another magnum I'd sit on it for another 2-5 years.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

I've never been wowwed with Tignanello. That said, you are very nice to people who help! Remind me to show up early and eager if I ever go to dinner at your place! Truly generous hostess.
