Shipping wine

So if I find some old wine I want for my wine fridge, what are the dangers in having it shipped? Can a delicate wine get ruined or does it just need time to resettle?

All wine can get ruined if it's shipped improperly, but with older wines more settling is indeed required & I would be more cautious about weather conditions. I wouldn't ship to Bermuda now for instance.

The danger of heat. So, it depends on where one is shipping from and to where.

Old delicate wines are often shipped. The prime danger is heat. So questions are:
1) shipping time
2) ambient temperatures along probable shipping routes

I agree with all the above. Think about your wine sitting out on the tarmack at an airport for several hours as has happened to me. Not as much a problem, for example, if your shipping from Fargo, ND to Minneapolis, MN this time of year. A nice styrofoam wine shipper will help, but not for too long.

What the others said. Generally, look at a weather map and check the temps at where the wine is, where you are and all the places it needs to travel through in between. If the temps are above 70 anywhere along the way? Bad idea, wait for cooler weather.

Great advice, Cheers!

It is actually quite temperate this time of year...Bermuda is not like Cayman or the rest of the carribean.
