WTN: `98 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett, Dr. Loosen. M-S-R.
Purchased in `01 for $20 Cdn and cellared away nicely I`d say.
AP NR 2 576 162 22 99. 8% alc, opened one hour. Very dried crumbly cork, had to strain through muslin as it fell apart on extraction.
I shared this bottle with the staff at my fave wine store, they have been so generous, opening some great wines of late. Including some newly released `06s that I listed awhile back.
Color. Medium gold, attractive in its old age.
Nose. Brief hint of petrol. Minerally, peach, apple, some floral still. No sign of oxidisation. Very nice nose here forumites.
Palate. Served blind, this really threw the store experts. "Semillon?", " its not riesling is it?", "nagh don`t think so".
Very good acidity, lengthy finish, minerally, hint of residual sugar. Some spice, no honey as such. Did not cloy, has a rich natural Riesling quality. Peach prominent . This has really cellared nicely and we were all surprised at the quality shown here. $20 forumites, great buy eh.
