The 2005 iteration of this wine was one of my "default" reds until the local wine shop ran out of it. The QPR was outstanding, and I wound up drinking a couple of bottles a month. Naturally, when I heard the 2006 had arrived, I picked up a bottle as soon as possible.
Like the '05, the '06 is fruity, but in a light and balanced way; not jammy at all. The wine's color is considerably darker this time around. Last year's notes of fresh berries are gone, but replaced with plum and pomegranate on the nose. It sits on the palate with strong citrus flavors, especially lemon and grapefruit, with a bit of cinnamon sprinkled underneath. A longer finish than I remember from the '05, rich with lychee and papaya.
In conclusion, a very good wine whose newest vintage is even better than the last. Not incredibly complex, but flawless, approachable and immediately drinkable. Probably not a candidate for cellaring for more than three years or so, but this stuff is a steal at $7 a bottle. Grab some before everyone discovers it.
