Robert Finnegan??

by TomHill » Fri Apr 11, 2008 3:18 pm

Bob Finnegan used to write Walnuts&Wines, a wine & restayrant review out of SanFrancisco, in the '70's. Then he moved back to the EastCoast (CN??) and I haven't heard much of him since. Ran into him once at a SFW&CFiesta event 10-15 yrs ago.
Anybody had any recent contact with him or know how he's doing?? Very likable guy and a knowledgeable wine writer in his day. I hope he's OK...or at least drinking well.

Finigan almost plummeted from the wine scene (at least outside California) after Arpy gained attention with his Bordeaux '82 reports. I'm not as certain as Wiki that this was the direct cause of Finigan's decline, but certainly after one last "all about wine" book published in the late '80s didn't make much of a splash, he disappeared. McCoy's rather positive recent book about Parker, "The Emperor of Wine," goes on at some length about this.

I know a man named Michael Finnegan!
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

Wilfred vanGorp wrote extensively on the Mark Squires website about an encounter he had with Mr. Finigan last year. It was an interesting read. The thread is located at http://dat.erobertparker.com/bboard/sho ... ht=Finigan. I hope this helps. Jim

Why is Finigan's name always in red on that thread?

Nothing sinister; it's just highlighting the particular word searched for.

Oh. Never did a search so I never saw that before. It reminded me of the CENSORED that shows up on the Therapy site.
