A couple of days ago I was visited by Martyn Nicholls from Gravitas Winery from Marlborough. We tasted 2 Chardonnays, a Sauv Blanc, a dessert wine, and a '05 Pinot Noir. It was certainly a great lineup but for me the standout was the Pinot Noir. It started off with these great aromatics with a bit of earthyness that really added interest. These flavors all continued through on the finish. The great news is that it will retail here for $23. I wish I had more Oregon Pinots of this quality for this price. I liked both his Chardonnays because they were really well balanced. The Sauvignon Blanc had a nice purity of fruit but is of the less assertive style.
