Napa Valley.

Wow, what a big and impressive wine.

Decanted about 30 minutes before supper.

Dark purple, almost black, in the glass.

Black licorice, herbs (oregano, basil) and chocolate on the nose.

Dense, mouth-coating, thick, saturated, black cherry, raspberry, some veginess (beets, I think), chocolate, tar, shoe polish, tobacco, with a slight alcohol burn toward the end (which isn't surprising given the wine's 14.8 per cent alcohol).

A long, long finish.

The wine paired very well with some barbecued steak.

Purchased at $19.95 (Canadian) and an excellent value at that price.
