Michigan - 2008 Wine Guide Arrived

by Jim Hofman » Fri Apr 04, 2008 6:19 pm

Hello all,

Just received the brand new complimentary Michigan Wine Country guide, a magazine format touring guide published by the Michigan Grape and Wine Council.

For anyone in the Midwest or anyone planning travel to Michigan, we recommend grabbing a copy. This 2008 issue is the best one yet ... comprehensive, colorful, and tastefully done ... with features on various wine styles, events, and easy to navigate maps.

This is what every state should be doing. For the last several years, Michigan has been working hard at promoting their wineries and wine industry, and their efforts have raised the profile of many interesting wines. Their state statistics estimate that Michigan wineries attract 800,000 visitors annually with an economic impact of $300 million.

Living in Chicago's western suburbs, Michigan's southwestern wineries have been a preferred destination for my wife and I for 20 years. It's really a beautiful area and well worth a few days visit.

Jim

P.S. - if you want a copy, they have an online request form at michiganwines.com

David,

Congratulations on your retirement ... I'm sure your contributions will be missed.

We're quite familiar with almost every state's "official" wine site and Michigan's is best in class.

Among our many favorite Michigan wineries are the picturesque Tabor Hill in southwest Buchanan, just a few miles from Lake Michigan's shore, and Good Harbors Vineyards, located on the Leelanau Peninsula near charming Traverse City. Tabor Hill houses a casual chic on site restaurant overlooking their vineyards, while Good Harbors is a longstanding member of the Michigan wine community.

In our estimation, the best is yet to come from Michigan vintners. Vineyard acreage has increased by 60% over the last decade, and the 2007 vintage (especially reds) looks to be one of the best in years.
