Bought at a Christie's auction and opened tonight in honour of our 29th wedding anniversary.
Light developed, reddish orange colour.
Delicate, mature nose with lots of mushrooms, a bit meatiness and a slightly burned smokiness and just a hint of mint. Very typical of a mature Nebbiolo wine.
Initially an elegant taste but then exploding in a broad, intense taste with much the same ingredients as on the nose plus a certain pepperiness. Typically dry tannins, but not too dominant, rather helping to build the structure of the wine. Wonderfully long aftertaste, fiery and smoky with notes of mushrooms and dry tannins. A wonderfully structured wine. In particular I love how the taste starts off a bit shy, but then decides to give it all and spreads in the back of your palate. Very nice indeed and a perfect companion to a fine roast of lamb with a sauce made of my self-picked mushrooms.
Cheers, Anders

PS. Standing in a covered glass over the night did not do much harm to the wine, the taste and the fine structure was still there. By the evening though, much of the charm was gone, as was the explosion in the aftertaste. However, the nice memories of a great wine lingers still.
