2003 Weingut Josef Leitz Rüdesheimer Berg Roseneck Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Rheingau (3/23/2008)
This wine is still in its infancy. The vintage certainly shines through, as the acidity is low, but the wine is balanced, and there's still so much sheer material that time can only be good to the wine. Fleshy peach and orange flavors are complemented by a lime zest note that brings some level of freshness. Compared to some monstrous wines that have come in 2005 and 2006 this actually seems like it might be spatlese, as opposed to some declassified beerenauslese (though I know it's well north of spatlese in its must weight). Even with the low acidity and fleshiness there is a sense of lightness and minerality on the finish that is very inviting. Give this some additional time in the cellar.
