Deep crimson color; slightly transparent. When the glass is tilted, the viscosity first causes arcs to appear on the sides of the glass and eventual to fall as drops.
Dark plum notes contribute to a powerful fragrance and to the flavors. Juicy mouthful with subtle herbs. Fruit predominates in the taste sensations. Delicious with smoked Cheddar cheese from the Finger Lakes of New York, and with wild mushroom bisque. (The wild mushroom bisque would also complement a mushroom Nuits-St-Georges.) Best at moderate room temperature--not overchilled.
95 points from "Wine Enthusiast" but their tasting notes cites cherries and strawberries where I thought it was closer to dark plum. I'm probably off on this one.
David Bueker singled this out from five Pinot Noirs sampled at Enoteca Vin in Raleigh while on a business trip to North Carolina so I bought a bottle to taste at home. It is a very nice wine albeit on the expensive side. Wine-searcher.com has one source at $21.60 per bottle but the other listings are $39 and up. Carolina Wine Company has reduced the price from $49.99 to $39.99 so I may go back for another bottle or two.
