I've got a little list...

by John Treder » Mon Mar 17, 2008 9:55 pm

I'm planning to head off to the Santa Rosa area on Saturday and pick up a few.
Being an engineer, I made a list of wineries I'd like to visit. I came up with a baker's dozen in a couple or three minutes.
The only winery on the list that I haven't visited before is Martinelli, and I have had some of their wines.
Here goes, in no particular order:
Loxton
Coffaro*
Martinelli
Fritz
Sunce
Joseph Swan*
Wellington
Porter Creek
Russian Hill
Yoakim Bridge*
Sausal
Foppiano
Field Stone*
The ones with the * are ones I'm absolutely going to visit. The rest will depend on how things go.
Sunce and Sausal are nearly certain.
It'll be a sip and spit day.
Anybody want to suggest others that I absolutely shouldn't miss? <g>

Looks like a pretty good list, John.

I know it is a tourist maelstrom and a little dominated by the gift shop, but I also enjoyed some wines from Imagery. They have a couple of good vineyard designate cabs and a great "Rhone" blend called Dragon's something or other. The latter was actually outstanding.

Since you are in the area, you micht want to check out Muscardini, a tiny winery which is a storefront in the small shopping center in Kenwood. And...just for architecture alone (their wines, while quite good, are megapricey) Ledson. The woodwork in the gothic castle house is beautiful and worth a stop on its own.

Since you're going to spend quite a bit of time in the RRV, why not visit Merry Edwards in their new digs? Nice wines, nice people and I'd like to hear about the new facility. I'll also put in a plug for Porter Creek, which is a very interesting place with some worthwhile wines, too.
