WTN: 2004 Gravitas NZ Pinot Noir

by Anders Källberg » Sat Mar 15, 2008 4:34 pm

Thought it could be time to try this one again and I was quite pleased. Nice red Pinot fruit, exactly what one wants to find in a NZ Pinot. Also some meatiness that has developed with a little age in the bottle. The alcohol (14.5 %) is just slightly shining through, but not at all as much as it can in other Marlborough Pinot Noirs. Great intensity in the taste, aromatic, smoky and chewable. Good acidity and rather soft tannins, but still enough to give the wine structure. Long, intense and aromatic aftertaste, just with a hint of the alcohol. Definitely the best Marlborough Pinot Noir I have had. Could probably become even a bit better with a couple of more years in the bottle, but I wouldn't keep it for too long, fearing that the alcohol will start dominating over the fruit. A very nice wine.

Cheers, Anders
