WTN: Lyngrove Reserve Shiraz-Pinotage 2004

by Bruce Hayes » Thu Mar 13, 2008 7:23 pm

WO Stellenbosch
Baarsma

80 per cent Shiraz.

Very bright cherry red.

Smoky, with big antiseptic- band aid notes on the nose.

Quite viscous and silky in the mouth, cherry and raspberry fruit, nicely tangy, band aid, smoky, earthy, spicy, with a smoked meat note (my wife suggested smoky bacon). While intially the band aid flavours really stood out, after a little while I got used to it and quite enjoyed what it added to the whole wine.

Very long, smoky, band aid-tinged finish.

A very enjoyable wine served with a hearty stew.

Purchased at $12.95 (Canadian).

It absolutely sounds like my kind of South African red.

Many thanks for the most useful notes, Bruce!!

I hope this doesn't sound too weird, but I kept thinking of you as I drank this wine. :D

Not weird at all - I take it as a compliment and an indication that you, sir, have fine tastes, are a scholar and gentleman, and all that stuff.
