WTN: Gigault Cuvee Viva 2005 (Bordeaux, Cotes de Blaye)

Searingly sharp, acidic, teeth coating, high toned juicy tannins. Bright, fresh with floral notes and deep tobacco base, stone, and a long drying finish. Despite the overwhelming tannins, it is light and fresh with smooth plummy fruit. Hard to know what this will turn into, but it is fairly compelling and interesting now, although on an academic rather than hedonistic level.

Thanks for the note. The last Gigault Cuvee Viva I bought was 2001 which is still young but drinking. Although this seems to be a wine made to drink young it has benefited from some age. My 2000s seem tougher but may improve.

The 98 was a more immediately attractive [and even better] wine but now sadly all gone. I would have bought more but the price in more recent years has reflected its popularity.
