Tonight, with bread, crackers, cheese, and duck pate:
2000 Beaucanon Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. A small obscure winery immediately east of Napa City owned by a St Emilion family. Unlike the Merlot, which I disliked as an Oaky monster, this Cab was singing tonight. Plenty of black currant fruit, but the lovely leather and tobacco character I like with a Cab. Finish may have been a bit short, and there could have been more acidity, but overall this was a nicely aged Napa Cab.
2003 Deux Amis Petit Sirah. Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma County. Opened by one of the regulars. I love a bit of brett on the nose, and this inky black wine had that! Definitely some teeth coating tannins. Good licorice fruit and blackberry, but not particularly fruity. Somewhat bitter and short finish, but I overall liked this wine quite a bit. Luckily, I have one in my cellar.
Off the wine list, 2005 Nichellini Zinfandel. Over a century in business,. this winery is located in the hills east of the Napa Valley. Neat place. Wines are "ok" but the history and setting are cool. The Zin is on the edge of jammyness, but stops short of said edge. Nice black pepper on the nose. Good Zinberry fruit. Nice wine.
