WTN: Domaine Terlato & Chapoutier Shiraz-Viognier 2005

by Bruce Hayes » Fri Mar 07, 2008 8:06 pm

Victoria.
A 95-5 per cent blend.

Very dark red in the glass.

Quite smoky on the nose, spicy, raspberry fruit, floral.

Very spicy and peppery, moderately thick, raspberry, quite peachy and floral (from the Viognier, I would assume).

An okay wine, but I have yet to find a Shiraz-Viognier blend that I really like and don't just admire for the novelty factor. Give me Shiraz and give me Viognier, but just don't mix them up!

Purchased on sale at $19.90 (Canadian).

??

Nothing novel about it in the Rhone.

Although, from what I've tasted of Australian shiraz, many of them could stand a 50/50 blend, which might get things into acceptable terrirory for "lifting" and "brightening" the shiraz :D

Not that it would solve the acid issue..

Ok, ok, crass generalizations, I know..
