From the oldest zin vineyard in Sonoma County (1858!), this was a field bland of multiple grape varieties-Grenache is apparently a big part, along with Alicante, Mouvedre, Syrah, etc! They had printed out one of those pixelated vineyard maps-quite interesting.
Very interesting nose. Despite the alcohol, no real heat at all-this smells very balanced. Definitely some delicious black pepper, zinberry fruit, and quite a bit of mint, as well. Touch of bitterness on the nose as well? This is a very interesting wine to sniff.
Follows through on the palate as well. Very smooth and soft with no alcoholic heat despite the 15%. A beautiful blast of black pepper and zinberry fruit. Very slurpable wine. Delicious. Not cheap, but at $32, I will probably eventually buy a bottle of this in the future.
