No, "How many bottles do you own that rated over 90 points" (or over 95, or....) would be an apt Ebob topic.

Next question - How much is it worth? (Either from a site like cellartracker or one's own receipts.)

As per Cellar Tracker (not updated since last week, and not too many changes):

Now that really IS an ebob topic.

The ONLY reason you need to know that is for insurance purposes. You do NOT (trust me on this) want this vital information to fall into the hands of the distaff side or it may be used against you for years to come. My cellar list totals value and while spending a modest amount every month doesn't seem like much, the accumulation of 10 or 20 years can be valued at what a decent house would cost you.

Parenthood has taken its toll, Bill. Our cellar once numbered close to 700 bottles, but now is down around 400. As a result, we actually have free space in our cellar -- is my winegeek status revoked?

Naw, I'm sure the ones you have are primo examples (and would be happy to be able to offer first hand confirmation) and the 'potential' cellar will fill out as the progeny age.

70 + 12 pending. I thought I would have less because a minor financial miscalculation made me drink up some of my stash instead of buying more to both cellar and to drink. Without that financial miscalculation I would be in BIG trouble since my cabinet only holds 85 or so bottles.

I'm over 1,000 bottles, but lots of my wines are fairly basic, worth $15-30. Still, some are fairly valuable. I like the Cellartracker valuation figures, because Betsy likes wine, but isn't obsessed. I've included my passwords etc for CT with my will so if I died she could intelligently sell off the more valuable things that she wouldn't get the value out of drinking. I also made sure she knows who to call re selling.

Kids (and funds allocated to kid-related items) have cut our cellar too. At one point it was a touch over 500, but its now right around 300. I've bought next to nothing (maybe 4 or 5 cases total, not counting a case of birthyear wines for each kid) in the past 3 years or so.

Cheers,

Dave

400s here. And that reflects obsessive collecting (a "problem") over a relatively short period. Storage is mixed, from very good off-site to cool closet to a small wine cooler.

About 700 Bordeaux, a sprinkling of Burgundies and Gigondas about the floor, two Cal Cabs (presents), three Riojas (presents) and several cases of Cal Chard for filler when drinking reds.

Obviously this needed to be broken up into smaller increments at the lower end and let all the rich wine geeks have status with the over 1500 bottles crowd. I am interested in the 100 - 500 breakdown since that is where the majority of us live.

My temperature-controlled cellar has over 1000 bottles in it. I've never counted them. I'm afraid to know the answer.

The number is steadily decreasing these days, as I've bought very little wine over the last few years.

37 bottles at an avg. of just under $10 = $364.82
