- 2004 Evesham Wood Pinot Noir Seven Springs - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
This is very different than the SI Special Selection. The aromatics are very clean, sweet red fruit and a touch of glycerin. Very gentle and elegant. Would guess it as a Burg. The palate follows. This is not going to womp you on the head but I would not call it shy. Nice amount of ripe fruit and light oak. Tannins are very present. All the stuffing to age just fine. Won't revisit for at leas 3 years. (91 pts.) - 2004 St. Innocent Pinot Noir Special Selection Seven Springs - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
Next to the Evesham Wood this is much darker and toastier. Nice but next to the other wine, the oak really stands out. Reminded me of SRH. Oak is up front but should diminish over the years. Lots of forest elements. On the palate it is a bruiser. A bit hot. Tannic and tart. Lots of fruit but just not smooth. Half was poured into a 375 and left for 4 days. It still bursts on to the palate. Still a bit disjointed. Present tannins but fruit still cutting through. Ripe but not heavy. Showing more pretty now. At this point the primary fruit and acid are leading the charge. But there is plenty of structure. Already matches well with the food but time will work out the rough edges and hopefully the oak will integrate better. Hold! (91 pts.)
These wines showed very differently. Interesting to have them together. I look forward to trying them together again sometime down the road.
