1976 Camille Giroud Latricières-Chambertin

Wow, this wine is certainly alive and kicking. The color is still there, a lovely bright ruby. Beautiful aromas of aged leather, strawberry, earth & mushrooms. In the mouth, this wine asserts its vivaciousness with beautiful acidity that's followed by fantastic notes of red fruit, some minerality and an elegant je ne sais quoi that comes with age. A beauty that will definitely see quite a few good years ahead of it. Delicious.

Nice. Giroud makes some long lasting wines. Was this from you own cellar or had this wine bounced around a little?

Jorge, thanks! I have loved some of the older Girouds I've had. I haven't been enamoured by the super-oaky style of the new owners however.

The Finnish importer told me that Giroud has released quite a bit of the 70's vintages recently.
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

Cool. Since I wasn't buying Burgs in the 70s, it is nice when there are "Library Releases". I am going to do some looking.

Jason,

As Otto stated, I believe this was a re-release straight from the domaine. I picked up a 1/2 case at a Zachy's auction in late January; when I got the wines a few days later, I was pleasantly suprissed at the meticulous state of the label and capsule and the fantastic fill (a few millimeters below the cork). Nonetheless, the punt was caked in grime and dust. So :D, my conclusion is that this came out of their caves not too long ago. A steal at a little over $100/bottle.
