2007 Francis Coppola / Niebaum-Coppola Pinot Noir Sofia Rosé - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (2/27/2008)
The appearance of this 2007 rose heralds the return of spring, as I loved the 2006 version. Same low alcohol? 11.5%, check. Same gorgeous electric pink color? Check. Same wasteful unstable bowling pin bottle? Check (we all have our faults). Same vibrant strawberry and melon nose? Check. Crisp acidity and refreshingly light body? No! Instead it's blowsy and flat, I don't know how you could possibly pick Pinot Noir grapes at 11.5% alcohol with this flabby result, but it is not impressive. At least it's dry. Fair+.

Oh don't you hate it when this happens. Haven't seen the still rose up here, but we do have the sparkling Sofia which I found to have too much RS for my taste (while recognizing it's probably perfect for it's target market, which isn't the geeks).
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Ah, yes, the canned Sofia. Haven't tried it, though it makes me curious. Maybe someone sells it by the split.

I was so jazzed to have a reasonably priced rose' that I really liked, but I guess it was too popular for it's own good. I'm going to try adulterating it to see if I can get something I like better.
