How to save $13M when ordering wine

by Peter May » Mon Feb 18, 2008 11:51 am

"We ordered a bottle of the Mukuyu Cabernet Merlot. When the choice is Z$2,000,000.00 for local or Z$15,000,000.00 for South African, the Zimbabwean wine is suddenly very appealing and it is really rather good if you like your Cabernet Merlot to taste like Pinot Noir."

Chris Harvie dines in the Crowne Plaza Monomotapa, Harare, Zimbabwe. (Sunday Times, South Africa 17 Feb 2008).

Ah! Africa recapitulates the economic wonders of the Weimar Republic.

Let's all raise a glass to hyperinflation.

Those bank notes make perfectly good toilette paper. The wheel-barrel needed to buy a loaf of bread is expensive though.

Apparently Zimbabwean $ 2 million is approx. € 46, which is not exactly cheap for a local plonk. I suppose the price changes every day.
