1999 Les Cailloux Châteauneuf-du-Pape Delightfully silky palate and tasty with earthy cherry but lacking in depth and in aromatics. Finishes with some serious tannic structure.

1998 Trimbach Gewürztraminer Cuvée des Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre (Alsace) Lychee and minerals galore with heavenly floral aromas. There is a touch of sweetness but thankfully enough acidity to keep it fresh. This is good stuff.

That's right. One of my favourites and an example I would never want to live without of a grape that I could otherwise easily live without. A bit trollish perhaps, but I find Gewurz a difficult grape and find few wines to my taste. Trimbach rocks!
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

I'm also not the biggest Gewurz fan, but this is probably my favorite example of the variety (especially in vintages with good acidity like '96 & '98).

Otto and Dale, I can't say I've had many gewurtzes but in addition to Trimbach, I've really enjoyed Kreydenweiss' Les Charmes for a well balanced, not overtly unctious, wine.
