WTN: '96 Thunder Mountain

This was a beautiful wine, full of dark fruit but not overtly sweet, all flavors were integrated and a lingering finish. A new world wine but in a very nice way. I am buying less and less domestic cabs but if they all tasted like this I would probably change my mind. Food is many times a problem but with veal shanks it was an excellent match. I bought 6 bottles of the '95, '96 and '97 and this was the last of them all. The winery owner used to be an active participant on this forum but passed away. I have no idea if the wine currently available has changed or would be as rewarding. An added attraction is the label, a large picture of some ancient god holding a lightning bolt.

Which wine is this - the Bates CS? I think only '96 I have is the Star Ruby.

Dale,
I only bought "Bates". Wish I had some more but don't drink a lot of CA cabs and at expected $50+ I guess I will stick to my 1 or 2 regular purchases.

Walt, back when Milan Maxmilovitch (sp) was alive and making the TM wines, he was a regular on the original WLDG. I never had the opportunity to meet Milan face to face, yet I felt as if I knew him very well. He was just that kind of person. I only have one bottle of TM wine in my cellar, and it is probably in need of drinking. It is the cab Franc and I think the vintage is 1998. If I weren't so lazy I would go downstairs and check, but alas, I am too lazy.
