The Steininger 2005 GV Kabinett had my vote for wine value of the year in '07. With all of the international acclaim and high-profile wines coming out of the Kamptal, I'm surprised that Steininger hasn't yet caught on in America (besides on the East coast maybe.) They are for certain amongst the Langenlois big-shots and deserve to be recognized beyond their Sekt. This one definitely shows the added belly of the '06 vintage in Austria, but still has an undeniable raciness and acidity. Snappy green apple, lime, and green bean, with less pungent rind and white pepper spice than the '05 counterpart. I think that by the time spring hits, the spice and mineral will push its way through the fat to the surface and she'll be coasting. 12,5% alc. $12
