Red Robin Lane was a second label for Folie a Deux that basically flopped. They were selling off the leftovers when I visited the winery in February 2004, and I tasted it and bought several bottles. It's from Fiddletown, and it was massively tannic when I bought it. I opened a bottle a few months later and marked my spreadsheet "Drink 2006-2010".
Of course I couldn't stand it, and opened one in December '05: "It's still tannic, but it's well balanced and quite tasty now. Improves quite a bit as it warms in the glass."
Tonight was spaghetti night, and Zin is spaghetti wine, among many other things. Browsing through the spreadsheet, I said, "What the heck!" and got another bottle out.
Ready! Forest floor and some stable-stuff. Tannins there, dust of age is on it. Dark color, aromas in the entry, long middle with the earthiness at front and brambles, etc. in the background. Medium finish. Glad I waited and glad I have another.
The spaghetti turned out to be what I was brought up to call "neckties" (because I didn't have any spaghetti), but now we're supposed to be very Italian and almost French frou-frou, and call the stuff "farfalle". No matter. 'Twas good.
