With American friends over for a working holiday and their parents just in for a two week whirlwind tour -

Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill 1995 - IMHO, up there with the 1996 - a hefty dose of liquering gives an initial impression of sweetness on both nose and palate but with time this wine took on a majestic personality offering up a fantastic melange of nuance, superb mouthfeel and a whopping long finish. Still young and with a great future in store. FWIW, Pol did great things with their '95's (Rose' excluded) 94 points

Raveneau Valmur 2001 - has really hit its straps in the last year. A compelling, beautifully honed Chablis Grand Cru with flinty minerality providing the perfect backdrop to some seriously good fruit and subtle mealy oak. Will live for many years. 93 points

Orlando Lawsons Shiraz 1991 - compared to the last two bottles opened in the last year, this was "head and shoulders" above. Probably the finest Aussie red I've drunk since "the" freak bottle of 1965 McWilliams OP Hermitage I scored from "the" cellar of a deceased estate that went through Langtons in 2007. Words can't do what flowed from this bottle justice. Unbelievable. 96 points

Stanton and Killeen 1985 Vintage Port - another stunner that took our breath away. This was simply superb, fully mature but with terrific freshness. One of the best local VP's I've tried for quite some time. 93 points

I have to add the restaurant (well, cafe) we ate at must rate as the worst dining experience I've encountered for years. The good company and great wines almost made up for the (mainly) atrocious food.
Cheers,

David
