Forgive Me Father For I Have Sinned

by John F » Mon Jan 28, 2008 3:32 am

I know this is best put in the travel section but wasn't sure how many "eyeballs" go there.

I need a hotel recommendation for San Francisco. My wife is flyng from Tokyo in Mid March and meeting my daughter who will be on a spring break. Neither one has been to SF before. I used to go there alot about 10 years ago and stayed usually stayed in the Mandarin Oriental with those nice views of the bridge? What is that like now? I also stayed at an older place on top of the hill - the Fairmont maybe?

They probably do not need ultra premium (4 Seasons, Ritz etc) but I would like something pretty nice - is there a Grand Hyatt or Marriott? Factors to consider included location, views and the gym (they both are workout manniacs - even on vacation). Cost is of some consideration but not critical - and if there is a "must do" ultra premium I would be open to that.

Thanks in advance for your help

Why did you entitle such an e-mail "Forgive Me Father For I Have Sinned"?

John - last year, I stayed at the Marriott in the Union Sq. area, and to keep this wine related, I brought a bottle of 1999 Pegau CdP for dinner at Acquerello, which is walking distance from the hotel. It would seem to fit your criteria.

Not sure how many years ago it was but they were pouring the 1999's when I took a few days up to Napa and Sonoma (again to make it wine related) but the Hyatt on Embarcadero was a good location. One can walk to China Town and also the Wharf etc. Cable cars are right outside the hotel. No idea about work out facilities. My wife used only a combination of walking and public transportation and had no problems getting everywhere she wanted to go from this location.
