Champagne tasting request

by Bob Henrick » Sat Jan 26, 2008 5:50 pm

I am looking for tasting notes on a bottle of champagne I picked up this afternoon. It is the 1990 Millesime Brut from Duval-Leroy. This is the wine whose label was painted and signed by LeRoy Neiman the artist. Actually I guess he didn't paint the label he instead painted and signed a canvas from which the label was copied. the front label shows a gentleman and a lady dancing or embracing. The gentleman in a dark suit, and the lady in a bright yellow dress. She is also wearing a large(ish) hat of the same color. Any information greatly appreciated. and if someone knows, should it be drunk up or cellared assuming decent storage.

Does this cuvée have a name? I know they did "Elegance", "des Roys" and "Femmes" this year. A friend of mine has all three, but the only we've tried is the "Femmes" which was a lovely and crisp and ripe, but still rather young (though I admit I like my champs to have a touch of maderisation on them). Can you post a picture of the label?

I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

Sorry Otto, yes it is the Elegance.

Bobby, you are really going high class on us! Wow! That sounds like a really nice bottle.
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

The price was (I hope) right James, at $30 it's not a lot to lose, but if I do lose it I'll cry...you know I will. :-)

Bob, did you buy it at a shop (LB?) or from an individual? The price is low enough to make me wonder about storage, particularly if it's being dumped on a bin-end sale. Still, at that price tag it's not the end of the world if it's a deader.

Purchased at the LB off the close out shelf. The regular wine guy was not in the store or I would have checked the provenance, but like you said, it's not the end of the world. If we can get a Cincy offline set up in the next couple months, I will take it to that. the Cincy wine Experience is coming up toward the end of March so maybe then.
