WTN: Pavie Macquin Rose, Torbreck Factor, Guigal Ex Voto

Short notes from another lunch at Je Suis Gourmand with Jojo, Monty, Johnny. Again, all the wines courtesy of Jojo except for the Eiswein which I supplied.

Le Rose de Pavie Macquin - Newly arrived at Jojo's shop so a good chance to try before buying. There doesn't seem to be a vintage on this Vin de Table but Jojo says it is likely to be a 2005. Not much of a nose. Darkish for rose. There's just a bit of sweetness on the initial attack but the general impression is one of dryness. A bit bitter on the finish. Richer than most rose. Nice.

Torbreck The Factor Shiraz 2002 - Very dark purple, young-looking. Sweetish and spicy. Plummy. reminds me of port but not really heavy in the mouth. Lots of fruit but no tannins or acidity. Not an ager and probably as good as it'll get. Lacks grip, unfortunately. Good wine but unbalanced by the lack of tannin and acidity.

Guigal Hermitage Ex Voto 2001 - Refined, still some tannins on the finish. Cedary. Medium bodied. A real pleasure to drink, especially with food. This could probably go a few more years before peaking but it's a real beauty now. Makes the Factor look real clumsy and flabby.

von Bassermann-Jordan Forster Ungeheuer Riesling Eiswein 1997 - Deep color. Very rich and sweet but with good balancing acidity. Peachy. Apple and grape skins texture. Excellent.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.
