Going to the Cote d'Or for the first time...

by Oswaldo Costa » Tue Jan 22, 2008 8:33 am

I’ll be visiting the Cote d’Or for the first time from February 1st to the 8th (followed by a weekend in Paris); I'll be staying at the Hostellerie de Cedre, the only place with a gym, without which I fear I might turn into a blimp.

In planning the trip, I benefited from many of the posts on this board, plus Allen Meadow’s Insider Guide. Besides the usual suspects, that I am treating as a rite of passage, I hope to visit some of my favorite wineries (and others that I’m curious about) with the help of the well-known Beaune distributor used by my retailer.

The rest of the appointments and reservations I will be making myself over the next few days, so if anyone had any particularly charming experiences that don’t require massive connections and that I should try to emulate, suggestions are highly welcome! I expect it to be somewhat low season, without too many difficulties in catching people’s attention... And if any of you plan to be there, it would be fun to meet for a drink.

Oswaldo,
have a great time! Others here have more experience than I, having only had one very short visit. I did enjoy visits to Jadot and Mugnier a lot. Really sorry I didn't do Paul Pernot in Puligny, which came highly recommended.

Food: I'd avoid Le Cluny in heart of Beaune, not bad, but overpriced (and wine list picked over). Best food I had in Burgundy was actually at a kebab place!

Thanks, Dale, based on one of your posts, we intend to visit Savigny and some of the wineries there, like Pavelot, Chandon des Briailles, etc., as well as Antonin Guyon (have some bottles, but never tried). But since the 2007 malos will still be in progress during the week that we're there, I wonder what it is that we'll be given to taste (if anything!).
