In continuing on with my tastings of low classified, or unclassified, Bordeaux 2000s, I recently had a couple of Saint Emilions:
2000 Chateau Yon Figeac, Saint Emilion
Left standing after being uncorked for 4 hours, this wine was very tannic, hardly or barely discernible fruit, hints of being quite under-ripe, some green at the finish. In the last few months, I’ve also had the 1995 and the 1998 from his producer, and I have to say that I’m more inclined to refer to them as Yawn Figeac. B/B-
2000 Chateau Cote de Baleau, Saint Emilion
Very nice nose of fruit, wood, leather, and earth. Plenty of sweet tannin. Then waves of ripe cherries, and then blueberries. This medium-full bodied wine with some creamy notes is pretty good drinking at this point. B+
