2003 Quinto do Pego Douro "Virgin Vintage"

by Ines Nyby » Thu Jan 17, 2008 2:33 am

Has anyone tasted this wine or does anyone have any information as to the provenance of this wine, it's distribution in the US or any other information?
I have just tasted the wine and it's amazing, now I just want to know more about it, and possibly how to find some to buy. Winesearcher shows it is only available in Europe.
Thanks in advance for all help!

Ines, I'm surprised you didn't get any answers. I'll bump you.

******** Robin, you might want to edit this out as I found this on another forum and I am not sure about your policy.

I've not tried Pégo's dry wines, but I was quite impressed by their 2003 Vintage Port. I know very little about the estate: It is situated close to Pinhão. The estate has made wine since 1548, but the first VP under its own label was 2000. The wine maker is Manuel Henrique of Porto Rozès guided by the South African Wouter Pienaarin. Does anyone know if they sold the grapes previously to some other producer? Has it always been under Cálem?

Hi Bill, Here's my tasting note(and I seldom get this enamoured of any wine, upon first tasting...): 95 pts: A wine of depth, finesse and profundity. Has the stuffing and complexity of a fine porto, but dry and unfortified. I will buy any and all bottles I find of this wine. Drinking perfectly now but I believe it will last for 20 years or more.

Apparently unavailable in the USA, but you can find it in Stockholm for about $60 or more.

Perhaps you could ask our personal Portugese importer connection about it? Maybe he could bring some into Canada?

I'll see if I can find out.

Is there any truth to the rumour they are changing their name to Dom. Pego and that their best cuvee will be Cuvee de Copo....?
