WTN: Excellent Cotes de Francs Bordeaux

by Brian K Miller » Mon Jan 14, 2008 2:38 am

Over at Vinography, there was a bit of a dustup over Alder's review of a unique new wine bar in San Francisco, Terroir. I wanted to check the place out for myself. I love this place-they have some unique stuff. They poured several interesting wines for me, but what I am "reviewing" is Chateau le Puy Cotes de Francs. 2004

Dark reddish black in color. Clean, appealing Bordeaux nose of black fruit and red fruit, and leather. Good brambly blackberry, raspberry, and currant fruit. A big brambly character that I guess one could expect from a younger wine-this needs some time or decanting. Plenty of mouthwatering acidity-this wine would go really well with food. Not too heavy in texture, but not thin and weak either. The leathery notes carry through on the palate as well.

Overall, this was an outstanding young Bordeaux, at least to my relatively inexperienced palate. Not cheap ($30) but well worth it. 17/20

Brian, interesting blog about Terroir. Obviously unique kinda place that is serving something a little different. Good for them!

Yep. Maybe I'm TOO MUCH into wine and take it too seriously and spend way too much time thinking about it (guilty as charged), but Terroir is the kind of small, passionate business I love to find. Plus, they bring over some unqiue stuff! This particular Merlot is made by a family farming the land since 1610! I just think that is kinda neat.
